Cinderella pantomime is a 'roaring success'

The Waterloo and Crosby Theatre Company

Crosby Civic Hall

Runs until December 9

Review by Jenny Robson

PANTO time has arrived in Crosby- oh yes it has! In true traditional style Cinderella has found her prince and is living happily ever after.

Yet again Pamela Foy has directed a lovely traditional pantomime for the whole family to enjoy. This must be such an enjoyable one for her as the title role is performed beautifully by her daughter, Alexandra Appleton, who has great stage presence and is a joy to watch.

This tale would not be complete without the zany antics of the ugly sisters and the roles fall this year to Les Longley (Biggeta) and Darren Hilton (Grimma) with extra comedy provided by Catherine Mageer and Michael Gibson playing Mouldy and Mildew.

Laura Birch is a handsome Prince Charming showing extra talent as the show's choreographer no mean feat with so many lively youngsters treading the boards.

The rest of the main cast - Buttons ( David Johnson), Dandini (Emerald Hickey), Fairy Godmother (Jillian Riddoch), Baron (Robin Leyland) and Baroness (Elspeth Fisher) make the show a roaring success. But credit must go to the whole of this talented company who work so hard to give their all - from the opening dancing in the village square to the final sparkling wedding scene, via plenty of audience participation

The Laura Elizabeth Dancers are engaging; the costumes and scenery are beautiful (I must especially mention the enchanting coach and horses at the close of Act One); and the delightful music is in the capable hands of Ann Dickinson, Tom Payet and Patrick Lye.

What more can I say? There is still time to book for this enjoyable show. Support your local panto!

Star rating: 3.5/5 - A tremendous start to the festive season.
